  My band had a slot booked on the Thursday night talent night and after hauling gear down the stairs were told that "no bands tonight, the owner wants to have the hockey game on the big screen." We had fans that came out to see us that were brought down, and left with us. A big thumbs down to the br Ass Monkey and it's unprofessional owner. You won't see us there again, as a band or as drinkers.

  The Brass Monkey hosts a few quite interesting rock, punk and metal shows. If compared to Mavericks in downtown Ottawa, the stage is a little bit larger and the view isn't too obstructed. The bar is also overall cleaner. On the negative side, prices for drinks are more expensive and service is a little bit slower. Another negative element is that it's quite difficult to get there. It takes at least a one-hour ride from downtown Ottawa by public transport to get there if there isn't too much traffic. To keep it short, the location isn't ideal and prices are a little bit too elevated but the shows are good and the place is cleaner and larger than Mavericks.

  Great venue for music. The management is awesome for supporting the music scene. The only problem I have is that bus service here is not good. The city needs to recognize that people need to be able to get home after shows. So location is the only issue. That and the stairs make it inaccessible.

  Great for live music. Not so much for service. It's a bit dive-y but has it's charm I suppose. NO handicap access which is stupid these days...and illegal. I would've given it 4 stars if it weren't for that.

  Relaxed atmosphere and live music is about where the good stops for this place. The tables are in rough shape, the house cues are dented, chipped, warped, missing tips or the tips have been hammered flat. The felt on the tables is dirty, stained and plays quite slow. The fact this place charges a dollar an hour more for these tables than Tailgators does for Valleys with good cloth is ridiculous. Calling this a billiards bar is bollocks.
